ONAM!

I'm so disappointed in myself for taking so long to upload, was just so caught up on everything. I was going to leave out this post and carry on, but as a malayalee I couldn't not do an onam blog post!

Onam is the most important annual festival for malayalees, in the state of Kerala celebrated with great pleasure and enthusiasm. Kerala was once ruled by an Asura King, being Mahabali. It was a time in which every one was happy and there was no discrimination on castes or classes. The festival is celebrated to welcome King Mahabali, whose spirit is believed to visit Kerala at the time of Onam.

I swear to God the struggle to wear a Kerala Saree in UNREAL! I kid you not. Cotton sarees aren't the easiest to wear at all, so much ironing is needed, but its all worth it in the end right? In my opinion I see Kerala sarees being so elegant yet so simple. The saris usually consist on being a cream colour (typically unbleached) with a gold border.

This saree which I got from Jayalakshmi Silks, from when I went India in summer! It was a beautiful creamy colour with a golden sheen to it. I paired it with a waist chain and obviously JIMMIKI KAMMALS.

Another look I really wanted to try with this saree was a thin pleat, rather than the traditional look. To be very honest I preferred this look! for this look I stole my mums saree as it was less stiff in comparison to my one and it suited with a green blouse. (I'm still loving the colour green, if you couldn't guess)

Last but not least I had to try out the cancan saree drape, which I adore so muchhhh! ( Lets not talk about how un-ironed everything is pls! sorry!)

My fave bit is experimenting with make up, I love matching my eyeshadow with the colour of the blouse.

I had so much fun this Onam, and I swear I must've put on so much weight from the amount of sadhyas I had, but all in all I got to do my favourite thing which was to dress up as and portray my true roots as a malayalee ahah!
